carved edge
crafting a special occasion
The collection was inspired by the tiny “Wild Strawberries” still life by Adriaen Coorte. An obscure painter of the Dutch Golden Age, he was fascinated by a beautiful Chinese Wan-Li bowl. Coorte painted the deer bowl over and over again, trying to capture the fluidity and precision of the rim so masterfully carved by an unknown potter.
Similarly, my collection focuses on carved rims, reflections of craftsmanship and culture. I carefully carve each rim with a blade of a pottery knife. It is a long yet special process for me, the maker, that later allows the user of the piece to make a special occasion of anything – even something as simple as the end of June, the strawberry picking season.
