ABOUT ANYA
I am a ceramic artist and educator living in the greater Boston area. The name of my studio is a combination of two dreams of mine - to operate my own kiln and to live by the sea.
I hold an MFA from the Yale University School of Art and a BA from the Corcoran School of Art. In addition to pottery, I have been a practicing educator and designer. I have found the process of teaching to be like making a vessel – there is a sense of growth and discovery that fills every class.
For me, one of the allures of pottery is the never-ending learning curve hidden from the public eye. I love the constant drive to tinker and experiment with materials, the physical aspect of making functional objects out of clay aligned with the creative aspect of my imagination. Ceramics offers a combination of art and chemistry not present in other visual arts fields.
Pottery reminds me of an unpaved country road that brings you home through all the ridges and raw beauty along the way.
On view: My piece, “Grey Tulip,” was on view at the 87th Regional Exhibition of Art & Craft at the Fitchburg Art Museum.
